Well, here’s my first blog post. It looks like this season of my life has been all about change. The last year has been incredibly chaotic.
In November 2025, I moved from east Tennessee to western North Carolina, choosing to store most of my things in a shipping container and stay in an RV while I build my new home. Then in February 2026, I was part of a layoff. I’m a motion graphics designer by trade, and at first I jumped into learning new things: web design, AI, interactive animation, anything that would make me more hirable. I started a freelance design business. Then I promptly burnt myself out.
That’s when I eased into my passion for fiber arts and weaving. I started by picking through some wool I’d scoured before the move, then pulled my spinning wheel and rigid heddle loom out of storage and let myself fall into peaceful making.
The rigid heddle loom was fine, but I missed my sweet old loom and was looking forward to making blankets again. Finally, I was able to clear out my shed enough to get her set up. Lady Tiller, my 125+ year-old loom, can be a bit fussy at times. She creaks and shifts, and it’s slow work weaving on her. But it’s peaceful. I love working with my hands and creating. There’s something about it that feels right. The blankets I make are unlike anything you’ll find in a store. The quirkiness of old Lady Tiller, paired with hand-spun yarn, makes each blanket one of a kind. There’s real comfort in that.
I haven’t given up motion graphics, and I’m still taking on freelance gigs, but life is more balanced now. This blog will be where I share the process: the wool, the loom, the blankets, and life on the ridge.
